How would your Scouts like to participate in the July 4th Parade? I bet they'd LOVE IT!! We are interested in getting together as many boys as we can to walk together in the annual July 4th Parade in The Woodlands. We won't be entering the parade as a competitive group, we've simply entered as a community group in hopes of getting some publicity for Scouting in The Woodlands. Several Tall Timbers Packs and Troops already participate in the parade with their own floats. We won't be competing against these units, so if you are one of those groups, please continue to participate.
The Tall Timbers District group will consist of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, and lots of adult leaders, too! We'll have our new district banner, but we'd also welcome any Pack, Den, Troop, Patrol, Crew or Team flags.
We just want to have a lot of fun, celebrate our country's independence day, and show that Scouting is alive and well South Montgomery County!! If you have a long flatbed trailer and/or can pull one or if you have some ideas to make our parade experience a success, please contact Mike Lampkin (

). Tell your Scouts to be at the Methodist church between 7:30 and 8:00am on the 4th of July.
Volunteers will direct you to where the scouts will be positioned in the parade. Make sure your boys are wearing their Class A uniforms. Parents are welcome to march with their Cub Scouts if they want. We will have cards to hand-out along the parade route telling people how to join boys scouts. This will be a great recruiting event! Looks we are going to have a lot of units participate. Again, it is ok for a unit to have just a few boys come. We know that this is a popular vacation time, but if you do come bring your troop or pack flag. Additional Parade Opportunity: Salute The Military
The marketing director at Market Street, Jenny Taylor, is looking for about 50 people (scouts [uniformed or not], siblings and families) for a special 2 minute salute to visiting military personnel at this year's July 4 parade. They would like the folks to line a section of the parade route in Market Street and salute the military personnel as they pass and distribute red roses to each of them. They will provide a special section with shade tents for participants and their families. (BYOchair). They are trying to make the visiting troops feel special before their deployment in August. For more info, contact Jenny Taylor

Unfortunately Jenny says the folks standing along the street for the military salute will occur at the beginning of the parade and there probably won't be time to get to our position in the parade. You'll need to chose which activity you'll want to do. Both activities will be equally rewarding for our Scouts and the community. |

[NOW REQUIRED FOR TOUR PERMITS] Scout leaders should always help their Scouts to be prepared for all types of weather. The National Council offers an online weather training called, "Are You Weather Smart?" Click here to go to the Online Learning Center to learn about severe weather safety or begin other training regarding health and safety matters. Floods, lightning, high winds and many other threats are reviewed. Severe weather cannot be prevented, but Scouts and leaders can be adequately prepared for most situations in the outdoors. The council's summer camp staff and directors of Cub Day Camps receive training on severe weather procedures. At Boy Scout summer camp, a weekly fire drill is conducted to help prepare all campers for possible emergencies. The health and safety of all youth members and adult volunteer leaders is the council's highest priority. |
